In Acts 8, the Church is spreading like a true wildfire. As the religious rulers try to slow the fire’s spread, God is breathing life into it. When God tells Ananias to go find Saul in Acts 9, we gain insight into obedience, suffering, and the mystery of God’s holy work in our world. Knowing that our God is holy and righteous, it’s shocking to see the company that Jesus keeps. His closest companions are not the privileged, the holy, or the influential. His followers include the broken, the corrupt, and the religious outcasts. He is dubbed a friend of sinners. That is Jesus’ heart and mission. Is it ours?
